Processing Peru
I’m still unpacking all that I experienced during my time in Peru, and one of the things that keeps rising to the surface isn’t just what I learned in schools, but what I learned from the teachers I traveled with.
For three weeks, I had the privilege of sharing bus rides, plane rides, meals, and long walks with 19 incredible educators from 15 different states. In that time, we talked about everything—classroom struggles, the joys of teaching, and the challenges we’re facing back home. I was struck by their passion for teaching, a passion that feels rarer these days. Being around people who love this work as much as I do was both refreshing and energizing.
We also laughed. A lot. Those moments of joy in between school visits reminded me that connection is just as much a part of teaching as lesson planning or data analysis. This group reminded me that when teachers come together, they don’t just share strategies: they share energy, encouragement, and hope.
As I continue to reflect on my time in Peru, I know the memories of the classrooms will stay with me. But just as much, I’ll carry the friendships, laughter, and shared sense of purpose that came from being part of this group of passionate educators.
At a bonfire one evening after school. We loved the desert city of Tacna.
Most of our team walking around Lima after our red eye flight. So thankful for my time spent with this crew.
